Baraye Mahsa (For Mahsa), 2022
Charcoal and acrylic on canvas
24 x 30"
$1,500

This was the very first portrait I did after hearing about Mahsa Amini, and it’s what spurred me to continue making Iran protest-themed portraits. On top of feeling powerless, I was missing my family and the things that were comforting and familiar to me (Persian food, hearing people speak in Farsi, etc.) as I was on a trip to Australia at the time the protests had started. This portrait also marks a drastic change in my artistic style, moving from light and whimsical to raw, visceral and personal.
