Doing this portrait came originally out of thinking about what Iranian women are in constant battle with these days and the real-life horror movie they’ve been put through. But, while working on the piece my own feelings also came bubbling up from past experiences where I felt I was being silenced/ignored or that my body no longer belonged to me and therefore was forced into an eerie type of isolation (something like The Sunken Place in the movie “Get Out”).
